Katharine Schmidt

M.Ed., EdS., NCSP

My Approach

Katharine’s approach integrates comprehensive psychological assessment with a warm, whole-child, strengths-based philosophy. She strives to help children feel safe, understood, and empowered throughout the evaluation process, creating an experience where they can show up as their most authentic and capable selves. She looks beyond scores to understand each child’s unique story and potential, and she partners closely with families to bridge the gap between home and school. Katharine guides families through systems, diagnoses, and next steps with clarity, compassion, and confidence. In therapy, she provides a nonjudgmental and collaborative space where children and teens can develop practical coping skills, strengthen emotional regulation, and learn tools they can carry with them throughout life. Katharine is committed to helping each child and family deepen their understanding, celebrate strengths, and move toward greater connection and well-being.

About Katharine Schmidt

My Experience

Katharine received her Bachelor of Arts in Psychology from Miami University, where she deepened her passion for understanding human development through hands-on research in social and developmental psychology. She later moved to Chicago to pursue graduate training in School Psychology at The Chicago School of Professional Psychology, earning both her M.Ed. and Ed.S. degrees. During her training, she specialized in comprehensive psychoeducational assessment, counseling and mental health practices, trauma-informed and multicultural frameworks, functional behavior analysis, and evidence-based interventions for children and adolescents. These experiences provided a strong foundation in understanding the whole child, academically, socially, emotionally, and behaviorally. Over the past 10 years, Katharine has worked as a Nationally Certified School Psychologist in diverse school settings supporting students from kindergarten through high school. She has extensive experience conducting psychological and educational evaluations, developing individualized support plans, and providing therapeutic services for children with ADHD, Anxiety, Depression, Learning Disabilities, Autism Spectrum Disorder, Executive Functioning challenges, Emotional Disabilities, and Intellectual Disabilities. She collaborates closely with families, educators, and outside providers to ensure continuity of care and to streamline supports across home and school environments. She also provides crisis response and conducts risk assessments, valuing the opportunity to bring clarity and direction to families during difficult moments. Katharine is dedicated to understanding each child’s unique story, empowering families with knowledge, and helping students access the tools and supports they need to thrive.
