My Approach
Alex’s approach to therapy is warm, collaborative, and grounded in the belief that healing happens through connection. He creates a space where patients feel both supported and gently challenged—a space where their stories can be fully seen and new possibilities can begin to take shape. Alex works with adolescents and adults navigating anxiety, trauma, identity exploration, and life transitions. His patients often arrive feeling stuck in patterns that no longer serve them, or uncertain about how to move forward after a loss, rupture, or unresolved experience. With a calm and grounded presence, Alex helps patients clarify their goals and move toward meaningful change at a pace that honors their strengths and nervous system.
Drawing from an integrative lens, Alex blends EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and psychodynamic approaches with practical tools to support emotional processing, insight, and self-understanding. Whether he’s helping someone process painful memories or explore current relationship patterns, Alex shows up with curiosity, compassion, and a deep respect for each patient’s lived experience.
He believes that therapy can be a powerful space for transformation—and he’s honored to walk alongside his patients on that journey.

About Alex Howard
My Experience
Alex earned his Master of Social Work from Loyola University Chicago, where he focused on the clinical track with a specialization in mental health. During his graduate training, he completed internships in both therapeutic preschool and outpatient settings, where he supported children, adolescents, and adults navigating complex trauma, mood disorders, and emotional regulation challenges.
Before entering the mental health field, Alex worked in education, including several years as an assistant teacher at a Montessori school. This experience helped shape his belief in developmentally attuned care and the importance of co-regulation in building trust and resilience. He later transitioned into community mental health, where he provided outpatient therapy to a diverse range of patients, using evidence-based modalities including EMDR and CBT.
Alex is particularly drawn to work with patients who feel misunderstood, overwhelmed, or “stuck”—those carrying stories they haven’t had the space to fully unpack. His experience with trauma-informed care, nervous system regulation, and identity-focused work informs a clinical style that is both grounded and growth-oriented. He continues to deepen his training in EMDR, Cognitive Behavioral Therapy and psychodynamic therapy, and brings curiosity and compassion to each therapeutic relationship.
